FAQ
The Japaneseword “futari” means “2 persons“. Another Japanese word “renzoku” means “continuous“. The last Japanese word “keiko” also pronounced as “geiko” means “exercise”, “training” or “study”. This complex name reflects the very training method used in pre-war Okinawa. Basically, this type of exercise represents the bridge between kata and kumite. This training method uncovers highly functional procedures hidden in traditional kata. The drill represents a constant and continuous alternation of different kinds of attack and defence, which are captured in the sequence of the executioner. At the end of the drill, the trainees change roles and the drill continues anew.
Despite the fact that master Itosu created many kata´s during his life, when creating kata Bassai Dai he remained faithful to the old teaching method – futari renzoku geiko, i.e. flowing drill for two people. This old teaching method has been replaced in the new kata by modern group training, where one trainer trains a large number of students. The flowing drill can only be practiced in pairs and requires knowledge of the techniques practiced by both partners. With such a teaching method, each of the trainees gets into a situation where he defends himself with pre-determined acts of physical violence, as well as responds to these acts. This pre-determined sequence of techniques pairs two trainees in a flowing drill filled with a variety of offensive and defensive techniques. If we were to remove one practitioner from this drill, the other practitioner would actually be practicing the Bassai Dai kata.
On the DVD you will find a complete video manual – Bassai Dai futari renzoku geiko, kata Bassai Dai performed by Alžbetka Ovečková and 11 parts, that will teach you in detail how to perform techniques and counter-techniques for both practitioners. A total of 48 min in FULL HD resolution (1920×1080).
The author of the drill Martin Klásek and sensei Branislav Náter will accompany you through the teaching process of the entire drill. In addition to the drill itself, the Bassai Dai kata will be introduced to you on the DVD. This task was performed by the European champion in Karate kata, Alžbetka Ovečková.
Since this video manual is a bridge between kata and kumite, it is full of practical things for self-defense. In other words, you will only find bunkai on DVD for every movement of this undoubtedly the most widespread kata in Karate. Therefore, this video manual is intended for those who love training in pairs, physical contact and getting closer to a real attack on the street. The drill will teach you how to defend against 17 types of attacks and respond to them with appropriate techniques. The video manual is also suitable for those who want to penetrate the very essence of Bassai Dai kata, prepare for exams, or just get inspired by techniques for new training programs. The video manual is also suitable for owners of martial arts schools, who can start a new Bassai Dai (Dojo Licence) course in their school based on this video manual.
Since this drill basically teaches self-defense, you cannot learn this drill without a training partner. Also for this reason, the purchase of the video manual is licensed for 2 people.
It is possible to learn a complete drill without focusing on details after only a few trainings (weekend seminar). Improving the functionality of the techniques itself is a matter of several months, if not years. Please remember that the drill is designed for two trainees, each of whom performs different movements. Therefore, in the process of practicing the drill, you will learn two roles. Please remember the Okinawan proverb: “One kata, three years”. After mastering the entire drill, you will be able to present the complete bunkai kata of Bassai Dai, including its secrets.
First of all, an original drill, a partner exercise for 2 people. We’ve been creating the drill for 10 years, so you won’t find it anywhere freely on YouTube. If so, it is plagiarism. We guarantee that the bunkai are the result of many years of work and that the drill is not a compilation of freely available bunkai. Second, a meaningful bunkai in which you learn to respond to up to 17 acts of physical violence (direct punches, circular punches, strangles and chokes, elbow and shoulder levers, wrist levers, hugs, ground defense, one-handed clothing holds combined with a strike ).
The execution of the video manual itself is unique. The video manual does not contain voice instructions, but text instructions in English. These instructions are color coded to make it clear which practitioner they belong to. The course of the recording itself is adapted to learning in the dojo, so you won’t have to hold the tablet in one hand and stop the recording all the time. The recording itself contains slowdowns and repetitions, so you can focus on the exercise itself! With the help of “focus“, the manual will alert you on which part of the body you should focus on. And so you won’t miss any detail. Therefore, learning with such an adapted video manual is easy.
We relied on professionals to create this video manual. Filming of the video materials was provided by Peter Tokoš – PT studio, processing of materials, editing and graphic elements by Zuzana Mazacova – Videography. We purchased a professionally prepared musical background from instrumentalbackgroundmusic.com and audiojungle.net. What to add in conclusion? Enjoy!
